What North Carolina law requires
North Carolina's G.S. 14-269.2 makes it a felony to carry a firearm on educational property, with exemptions for sworn officers, company police, and personnel specifically authorized by statute. The General Assembly has repeatedly revised those rules for nonpublic schools, and bills such as H949 and S280 continue to move the line on who may be armed on a private campus and under what training.
DIS is licensed by the North Carolina Private Protective Services Board (license 735913-GP) and protects twelve North Carolina campuses today. For each school we design the program, armed or unarmed, to fit the exemption that lawfully applies: armed posts where the statute permits them, and highly trained unarmed officers with Command Center oversight where it does not.
North Carolina also requires every school to maintain a School Risk Management Plan with local law enforcement and to conduct annual lockdown drills. DIS officers participate in the drills and our regional manager helps your administration keep the plan current.
